My name is Chad McVeigh and you’re getting this e-mail because you were the randomly chosen recipient of an incredible and anonymous assault on my character via the address savecda@gmail.com. As your Development Director of College Democrats of America, I want to assure you that the message you received was part of a personal vendetta against me and is filled with fabrications, exaggerations, and simple malice. I am, therefore, compelled to briefly address the most sensational aspects of that e-mail and I’d hoped to borrow a moment of your time to do so.
First, I’m not a candidate for President of CDA. I would like to see the re-election of our President Lauren Wolfe. In a landslide.
Second, when I was President of the College Dems at the Ohio State University, we became the 3rd largest on e-Chapters, played a major role in electing a Democrat to a countywide office that our party hadn’t won in more than 80 years, and I personally spearheaded the most successful fundraiser we had in more than 15 years. As far as any casino trips go, the only thing that’s true is that I once donated $5 of personal winnings to the OSU Dems. That’s it. What can I say; I have no luck with slot machines.
Lastly, as Chairman of the Ohio College Democrats, I was unanimously elected at a convention which re-founded our state federation from half-a-decade of inactivity. In less than one year I rebuilt our relationship with the Ohio Democratic Party and achieved our primary goal of a lasting compromise with the Ohio Young Dems. In recognition of my efforts, I was appointed by the Chair to the Ohio Democratic Party Executive Committee, and I was the youngest such appointment in more than two decades. At the end of my term in October, the OCD had so much political capital and credibility that the state party invested over $10,000 so we could host the “Take Back Ohio” Invasion just a month later, which, because of a fantastic new E-board, was one of the most successful campaign invasions in the country.
At first I couldn’t figure out who had the motive to attack my character, enough information to create a mix of half truths and baseless lies, and the compunction to take the time to bother you. However, the writer confessed to me shortly after I received a copy and I discovered it wasn’t written by a E-Board member of the OSU Dems or even the Ohio College Dems. It was an ex-girlfriend. An ex who decided to turn your inbox into a public battlefield to get back at me and I apologize for the interruption of finals week and the Holiday season.
Regrettably, there is something on full display in the previous e-mail that I cannot deny. In the past, I’ve demonstrated poor judgement in girlfriends :)
I won’t waste more of your time by asking you to read a response to every accusation in the message, but I’d be happy to address any of them at any time if you would like to write back or call me. Please be confident that my record is solid as a leader and an advocate of College Democrats, from the chapter level to the national executive board. If I don’t already know you, I look forward to meeting you and would encourage your attendance at the CDA Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. Feb 1-4. It’ll be a great chance to meet the leaders of our party and this organization and, boy…are we going to have one hell of an ice-breaker!
Happy Holidays,
Chad McVeigh
