TO WITTHE AMERICAN CRISIS

As the presidential campaign gets personal, as gas prices become about as affordable as an adjustable rate mortgage, as Barack Obama defends his patriotism (just days before July 4)…

As Guy Ritchie gets out of Kabbalah (and possibly his marriage)…

The rumor going around town is that Google used its powerful online network to silence Barack Obama critics. (Does this qualify as not being evil?)

Politico reports: “Several anti-Obama, or pro-Clinton, blogs that run on Blogger — Google’s free blogging platform — have been disabled after somebody complained — falsely — that they’re spam.”

Google says it was trickery. And it won’t happen anymore.

Others wonder if it was something much more sinister. Something, perhaps political.

Does this say anything about the online conglomerate’s zeal for free speech?

Well, they caved in on that a long time ago. Allegedly.

Perhaps that’s going too far. Giving in to the communist chinese for financial gain isn’t exactly trying to behead Thomas Paine for pamphleteering “The American Crisis.”

That seems uniquely capitalistic.

But there are other things for your concern.

Things like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s performance on Meet the Press.

Like the media frenzy stirred by Barack Obama and Bill Clinton talking for an entire 20 minutes. (Reportedly without any expletives.)

Like Mason Harrison moving to Oregon.

Things like negative campaigning. Barack Obama declared Monday that exploiting patriotism “too often poisons our political debates.”

Dare anyone question Mr. Obama’s patriotism?

We’ll see if Google can help.
