CNN GOT NAME WRONG
ONLINE STORY GOES DARK, THEN COMES BACK

Exclusive – The one name used in the CNN.com story—headlined “Young Republicans worry about McCain’s appeal”—was most likely misspelled. The name Eric Pearlmutter doesn’t exist in the state of California. On Facebook, the name Eric Perlmutter-Gumbiner is listed at USC.

The CNN story went dark for an hour this evening. They corrected his name!

(There is an Eric Perlmutter registered to vote in California, as a Republican, a source says.)

The USC College Republicans refuted a CNN story quoting Perlmutter earlier today.

CNN quoted Perlmutter as an authority on college campus recruitment, even though college’s haven’t been in full-session since Obama clinched the Democratic nomination. And, even though Perlmutter isn’t listed as an officer in the USC College Republicans.

A transcript goes:

ERIC PEARLMUTTER, USC YOUNG REPUBLICANS: We try to get people out to our college Republican meetings and we can’t seem to draw the same type of vocal support.

LAWRENCE: Eric Pearlmutter cringed when his candidate admitted he doesn’t use e-mail. John McCain’s MySpace page looks like it hasn’t been updated in five months. And some pictures seem too nostalgic to represent, say, small business.

LAWRENCE (on camera): Does that image connect to young people?

PEARLMUTTER: Well, when you see the Main Street barber shop image, you think of 1950’s America. An entrepreneur as Silicon Valley guy will definitely make it more attractive.
