MARTINEZ WONT SEEK RE-ELECTION IN FL

Senator Mel Martinez won’t seek re-election, he announced today, setting up a costly battle to replace him.

The Miami Herald speculates on possible candidates: former House Speaker Marco Rubio, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum and state Sen. Dan Gelber, as well as U.S. Reps. Ron Klein, Allen Boyd and Kendrick Meek. Supporters of former Gov. Jeb Bush are also likely to urge him to jump in.
