CRNC ALUMNI: WHERE ARE THEY NOW

THE CHAD BARTH STORY

Chad Barth, the former Scott Stewart-era Iowa College Republican state chairman, is now featured on the Atkins Web site. (Yes, former CRs are now selling diet products. Move over Governor Huckabee.) [ATKINS]

Barth, who at one point weighed nearly 300 pounds, lost 83 pounds on the diet. He currently works for the RNC in Washington and is remembered as a fantastic kareoke singer.

(Coincidentally, the Atkins company filed for Chapter 11 this week. It’s all about South Beach now.)

The former Iowan was famous for playing both sides of the CRNC fence (some things never change), having turned on his oppositional friends to vote for two-term CRNC Chairman Scott Stewart. (For whatever reason, Stewart nicknamed Barth “The Mayor.” Even though, to our knowledge, he never ruled a municipality.)

Barth “sold out” to Stewart to receive the title of “CRNC Communications Director.” He’s collectively known as the first communications director to never send out a press release. (Stewart never trusted Barth because of Barth’s oppositional relationships, and quickly disposed of him after his re-election.)

The now-defunct underground CRNC publication (and default Truth Caucus “Godfather”), “The Rumor Mill,” wrote of Barth at the dawn of his weight loss in 2001:

“He is clearly not the same Barth he was two years ago, perhaps attributable to his recent weight loss, which apparently took most of his cognitive thought as well.”

One must wonder: Will Chris Tiedeman show up on the Web site next?
