MCHENRY VOTES AGAINST VOTING RIGHTS ACT

I know I’ve been a little hard on North Carolina Congressman Patrick McHenry, but voting against the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a good first-step to salvation.

The 33 Republicans who voted against final passage of the Voting Rights Act were: Richard Baker (La.), J. Gresham Barrett (S.C.), Roscoe Bartlett (Md.), Joe Barton (Texas), Jo Bonner (Ala.), Dan Burton (Ind.), John Campbell (Calif.), Mike Conaway (Tex.), Nathan Deal (Ga.), John Doolittle (Calif.), John Duncan (Tenn.), Terry Everett (Ala.), Virginia Foxx (N.C.), Trent Franks (Ariz.), Scott Garrett (N.J.), Phil Gingrey (Ga.), Joel Hefley (Colo.), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Wally Herger (Calif.), Sam Johnson (Texas), Steve King (Iowa), John Linder (Ga.), Patrick McHenry (N.C.), Gary Miller (Calif.), Charlie Norwood (Ga.), Ron Paul (Texas), Tom Price (Ga.), Dana Rohrabacher (Calif.), Ed Royce (Calif.), John Shadegg (Ariz.), Thomas Tancredo (Ga.), William Thornberry (Texas) and Lynn Westmoreland (Ga.).

QUOTE OF THE DAY…

“The testimony of an ordinary person is different from the testimony of someone who hires herself out to dance naked in front of and, yes, sometimes sleep with people, strangers.”

NORTH CAROLINA BLASTS GOURLEY, MCHENRY

FEDERATION PASSES CENSURE RESOLUTION ON CRNC NAT. CHAIR AND CONGRESSMAN

JON THOMPSON ELECTED CR STATE CHAIR

The North Carolina College Republicans, earlier today, elected Jon Thompson as its state chair—not without some fireworks.

The federation passed a resolution of censure against Congressman Patrick McHenry and CRNC Chairman Paul Gourley. They also removed McHenry’s name from the federation’s “Patrick McHenry Rising Star Award.” It’s new name is the “Elizabeth Beck Rising Star Award.”

TELL ME SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW…

Duke University has decided to take the easy route: Losing before the stakes get too high and everyone develops drug problems as they consider “going to the NBA.”

Prediction: John Plecnik will be out of communication for a week. (Make it two.)

MARCH MADNESS…IN EVERY WAY

While I’m not one to get all caught up in “March Madness,” it must be pointed out that Jon Thompson, candidate for NC CR State Chair loves the UNC Wilmington Seahawks (his college) and recently appared on North Carolina TV with his face painted in support.

(This is the point where John Plecnik, a Duke Blue Devil, throws a chair across the room.)

WRIGHT SETS PRESS CONFERENCE

Hickory Mayor Rudy Wright, who has said he was considering a bid for Congress, announced he will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Wright would not reveal the subject of the press conference, but he has said he may run against freshman incumbent Patrick McHenry, who replaced retired U.S. Rep. Cass Ballenger last year in the 10th Congressional District.

THOMPSON ANNOUNCES, KIND OF…

It appears as if Jon Thompson’s official announcement for North Carolina CR state chair has turned into a bad re-enactment of Bill Murray’s “Groundhog Day.”

Cue this message from Thompson stating that the press release submitted to TRUTH CAUCUS on Tuesday “was not put together, nor distributed by” his campaign.

Thompson wrote, “I did not “officially” annouce at this bash during CPAC. I had annouced early in the month of January in my home state of North Carolina through a press release. Like I said the press release you have posted now, was not put together by my campaign or anyone working on my campaign.”

I got the CSI crime lab on the case.

FERGUSON SAYS ‘NO’

There was a rumor that Russ Ferguson was going to become an interim state chairman of North Carolina CRs. (Tripp Costas, the state’s former leader, got up and resigned leaving no clear line of succession.)

TRUTH be told.

Today, Ferguson quashes this rumor by saying, “I was not, am not, and will not run for State Chairman.”

Thus continuing the ongoing North Carolina CR “tele-novela.”
