QUOTE OF THE DAY…
“I’m surprised that that many people would admit to draft dodging.”
—Alabama CR State Chairman Blake Harris, on a recent poll stating that 35 percent of young Alabamans would dodge the draft. [Associated Press]
WISCONSIN, REPRESENT!
The home of Awais Khaleel, the fabulous Mary Ellen Burke, Russ Feingold, and Tommy Thompson is considered the “most representative state in the union” (screw you Minnesota!) according to a CNN study of demographics.
Here are the top five:
1. Wisconsin 36.4
2. Missouri 35.2
3. Kansas 34.4
4. Indiana 30.8
5. Ohio 30.1
PEACE?

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice , seen here at the piano, is expected to resume her Middle East crisis mission, as the United States warned against a “fake peace” to end fighting between Israel and Hezbollah(AFP/HO)
TRUTH, FROM A REMOTE LOCATION…
When you travel to certain parts of the continental United States you realize—pretty Goddamn quick!—that WiFi isn’t universally available. So, tonight as I come to you from a remote location (no, I’m not at the Israeli-Hezbollah border, but I should be), please know that I’m trying my best.
Sources say Indiana Senator Evan Bayh had some spirited college students at the CDA convention supporting the Senator’s “All America Pac.” Which means he’s actually running for president, but doesn’t want to be honest about it just yet. (All this just to be the guy to lose to John McCain?)
Anyway, they have a blog with video of Howard Dean’s address to the convention. (Although I’m told his training seminar was much more interesting.)
But, I must note, as I heard someone recently say: “We don’t need a Bayh president.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY…
“These boys and girls are not spare parts.”
President Bush, with his veto pen.
QUOTE OF THE DAY…
“We will not permit this to happen and we will take whatever steps are necessary.”
—Hillary Clinton, pandering.
QUOTE OF THE DAY…
“I’m not going to talk too damn long like the rest of them.”
—President Bush, bringing back “Cowboy Diplomacy.”
LIFE IS A CAMPAIGN EVENT…

I took the weekend off from patroling the Mexican border—something that afforded me the appropriate time to “surf” various campaign websites. Much to my surprise, the websites for Arkansas Gubernatorial candidates Asa Hutchinson and Mike Beebe (a high profile race) were terrible. Hutchinson has no video and really large pictures that make the site feel unstable. Still, I guess it’s better than Beebe’s photo montage sequences that have a distinctive 80s feel.
CAMPUS PROGRESS…
Campus Progress gets underway today…I wonder what they’re talking about? (Other than gay marriage and flag burning.) [Campus Progress]
NEED TO KNOW…
Virginia Sen. George Felix Allen will debate his opponent, Jim Webb, tomorrow morning on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos. (Check for local listings.)
QUOTE OF THE DAY…
“Sen. Burr, they don’t have beaver like this down in North Carolina.”
—Tom Delay joking in Roll Call.

GROVER NORQUIST IN INDICTMENT SCARE
Ah, nothing like an indictment scare…
TRUTH BE TOLD…
Congressman Patrick Kennedy said he wanted to be treated like an “African-American in Anacostia” if he were to be charged for crashing his car on Capitol Hill.
He was charged, and today he received “probation.”
I thought that if a black man from Anacostia crashes his car on Capitol Hill, he gets taken behind a filling station and beaten with a nightstick?
QUOTE OF THE DAY…
“Which was easier, for a Bush to steal Ohio in 2004 or for your uncle to steal Illinois in 1960?”
—Stephen Colbert questioning Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about his recent article in Rolling Stone alleging that George W. Bush stole the 2004 election.
